Spammer ?
Chris Barry or better known as 23yrold3yrold on the allegro.cc forums. Go check out the recent threads list and you'll probably find a thread started by him or a thread with his comments all over the place. Yup, he is the spammer king on allegro.cc and even though he does post a crap (he has posted over 11000 posts with an average of about 13 posts), he is also does alot of coding, so we still like him, hehe.
He has also written alot of articles for pixelate including his latest one : Rule of Three found elsewhere in this issue. His latest project consists of a platform game and a character mad of springs and gears. Another project Chris is working on is the continuation of KQ called KQ Lives, which has been rescued and currently being improved by the allegro community. Expect alot more cool articles from this guy.
More on Chris
Let's see ... some quick points. Christian. One sister, two brothers (all younger than me; ha ha!) Stuff I collect: Transformer toys/comics, X-Men comics. Game consoles: NES, SNES, N62, Playstation, Saturn, Dreamcast and Gamecube, with over 100 games for all (lots of great NES/SNES classics). Sponsors a third-world children (Guddu Mahaldar from East India). Procrastinator. Canadian. *Not* a spammer! Goes by 23yrold3yrold pretty much everywhere he goes at all.
Current Project:''''
The Mighty Stoopid, which I have been fairly silent on until recently. It's a 9 level platformer with some pretty advanced AI and lots of cool stuff you don't see in the average hobbyist's platformer, like slopes, conveyor belts, moving platforms, complex enemies with several independent parts, etc. The engine's pretty much done, so I'm just working on making the levels now, which is going pretty quick. If I can get it out by year's end (yeah, right) I'll be happy. You can see a little concept art here.
My resume:
I'm a card carrying C++ fanatic, plus I know HTML, CSS and I've used Lua a bit (does that count as a language?) I'm going to start learning Java, PHP and Perl one of these days, probably after my game is done. My favorite API's right now are Allegro, Win32 and OpenGL. Played a bit with Dreamcast programming, which is fun. I'm also the Allegro.CC resident hardware idiot.
Foods:
I try to eat healthy. Don't eat much fast food (unless Subway counts). Fruit and salads make good quick snacks. My favorite homemade dish is my patented Chris' Food Pile. Two chicken thighs, a half cup of wholegrain brown rice, and one cup of mixed veggies. Make 'em all up (chicken in the oven, rice on the stovetop, veggies in the nuker), chop up the chicken, and mix. Sprinkle with some mild shredded cheddar cheese and nuke for a few seconds; just enough to melt the cheese a little. Serves one 23yrold3yrold.
Music:
Well, the Christian station is usually what's on my radio. I'm not big on mainstream music, but I've got some game soundtracks (like Chrono Trigger and several Final Fantasies). Music is not a big passion for me, so ... yeah. If I had to name some good mainstream stuff, I used to listen to Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Sarah McLachlin, The Tragically Hip, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, The Jeff Healey Band, R.E.M., Metallica, Guns and Roses (Appetite for Destruction ONLY; everything else sucked), Pet Shop Boys and David Bowie. That was just a quick skim of some of my old tape collection ... hmm, I'd forgotten Jeff Healey even existed. *pops in the "Feel This" album and rocks out for a while*
Movies:
Movies are crap. Seriously. I hate what Hollywood has been churning out lately. What does everyone see in A Beautiful Mind?! It was horrible, and that's a fact. I don't mind going to the movies sometimes though, especially with other people so we can praise/trash it later over munchies. Good movies: Shrek, Good Morning Vietnam, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Transformers: The Movie, X-Men 1 & 2 (okay, I'm obviously biased for some of those) ... all I can think of right now. Bleh.
Books & Authors:
Well, I'm not a big music buff and I hate movies, and now I say I have no time for reading. I'm such a boring SOB, aren't I? ;) Well, I'm kind of an X-Men buff. If you think I spam Allegro.CC, go peruse the old rac.arts.comics.marvel.x-books Usenet newsgroup archives. The Matthew, Bob, and me of Allegro.CC were Kate, Paul and ... well, me :) I've got a huge X-Men collection over a dozen series, and almost all of the original 80-issue Transformers run. I've also been reading Ultimate Spider-Man, which I highly recommend if you are a fan of Spider-Man but not really into comics. It'll convert you. Go fine the first two trade paperback collections on Amazon or something; they cover issues 1 - 13 and if you like what you read go pick up some more. The collections are up to issue 32 and the monthly comic is up to about issue 40 (not sure; I read the paperbacks). Excellent stuff. As far as novels, I've read LotR (who hasn't?) and some Michael Crichon. Also got quite a few Dave Barry books (no relation) and every Fox Trot and Calvin & Hobbes collection in existence. Read a lot of Gordon Korman for grade school book reports until my English teacher got sick of it and made me read other stuff. The only books I read nowadays are programming books. I try to buy new ones regularily, just to keep learning.
Favourite Websites:
Allegro.CC, just maybe. I have a Bookmarks folder full of comic sites, including (in general order of preference) 8-Bit Theatre, Megatokyo, Penny Arcade, User Friendly, PVP, and RealLifeComics. I have a folder full of some old sites I used to do Bible research on (like CARM), and of course programming resources like GameDev, Pixelate, and whatever good sites pop up on Google when I'm looking for stuff.
I like:
Having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, having a roof over my head and food in my stomach, bug-free code, helping folks with what I know and learning stuff I don't, cats, getting a job in the programming field (sadly, hasn't happened yet), old NES/SNES classics, spending time with loved ones, a clean apartment, drawing, and fr46G1n6 j00r a5$.
I dislike:
Graphics over gameplay, special effects over content, pretty pictures over plot ... fluff in general. The sizzle instead of the steak, shall we say. Also; boy bands, promiscuous women, dirty dishes, me when I'm procastinating, me when I'm depressed, me when my self-esteem is sucking, liars, spam e-mail and wet dog smell.
What Makes Me Tick:
Eating a clock.
Memorable Experiences:
Visiting Newfoundland several times. My grandfather on my dad's side still lives in Marystown, along with some of my aunts and uncles (both of my grandfathers had around a dozen kids each, so I've got aunts, uncles and cousins all over Canada). Newfoundland's a beautful province during the five minutes a week the fog lifts. I've also been to Florida, which included fun at Sea World, Busch Gardens and DisneyWorld. Sneaking onto a store roof to watch (and tape) the Rolling Stones concert was memorable too.
Greetz go out to:
Mom, dad, sis, bros, and that's about it because I'm a loner and have no friends :)
