Overall Impressions
"#3 release was a bit too big for me ( about .zip size of course )."
[Yeah, the last issue was a bit too big especially for those with dial-up connections. For future issues we are going to release it in two parts: one with all the articles and a source code pack with all the source - ed.]
"Yeah; keep up the good work!"
"A good start, but it needs a lot of work. Try to make the issue as regular as possible, ideally it should be released the 1st of every month. Some of the articles are good, but some are rather poor. Be critical on the articles, not all should be accepted automatically. I liked the first competition on particle engines, the second competition on games in general I didn't like so much. I would prefer it if the competition of Pixelate is on a specific topic, rather small, and it should have something to do with an article in pixelate."
[Expect more competitions on specific topics/articles - ed.]
"The amount of interest that has been generated is extremely good - but in order to keep it, more polished content and structured layout is necessary."
[Let us know what you think of the new (permanent) layout - ed.]
"Looks professional. But you need more specific articles with more sample code. But the whole thing goes the right way."
"Great!"
"Wicked. Love the articles, u should get more people involved (people who know quite a bit). Like, find some way to persuade more people."
"Very good. Especially for the newbie programmer."
Which articles did you enjoy the most?
"1) Game Design (Part 1) - Issue 3
2) Game Physics - Issue 3
3) Linked Lists - Issue 3
I just happened to find those interesting since those topics were ones which I was currently looking into."
"Actually I liked the game reviews the most!"
"Writing Portable Allegro Applications. Was a good article."
"Linked lists and that about making a shooter."
"I liked the article on profilers and on particle engines."
Articles Requested
"- Allegro tips/tricks
- Arcticles on development tools
- Something on scripting
- Less focus on reviews, more focus on previews
- Behind the 'scenes' on some of the more popular indie games"
"Maybe some news about computerhardwares, that's allways interesting."
[Personally I don't think this is a good idea, except maybe about the latest 3D cards ? what do you guys think ? - ed.]
"planing/programing a simple 3d engine (with everything in it, renderer, phisics,...) hm, something about making a scripting engine and the basic consept behind it.. also a AI programing article would be nice (A* pathfinding, making desisions.....) "
"A particle engine article that normal people can understand would be nice."
[this is from the same guy that said that he liked the particle article very much... - ed]
" Hm... programing techinques for different aspects of a game.
e.g. a good inventory system, story board system, etc.
Music would be a good one! "
Contributing ...
"I`m learning Allegro now , so I can`t"
"sure, almost everything ranging from AI to physics"
[uhmm, please have a look at what the people want and send us some articles - ed.]
"Maybe, i don't know."
"lol:) I'm busy doing a 3d engine, but if you are really desperate :) "
[ yep we are, this magazine depends on you guys with spare time on their hands to write some articles about the knowledge they possess for the beginners out there... - ed]
"I might contribute sometime in the (distant) future, but, as of now, I haven't really done enough with my own projects to tell other people how to do their's."
Future Columns ?
"...Allegro topics, Allegro tricks, development tools..."
"Yes, several on the larger subjects of game programming (Graphics, networking, sound, etc.)"
"Not really, just put the most interesting stuff on it!"
"AI, Allegro Dev"
[I think that having a regular column on the status/progress of development on Allegro itself is a good idea, can anyone help wih this ? - ed. ] "game design "
